Who am I ?

I had a hard time choosing the topic to start my blog with. My choices ranged from the international menagerie of American politics, the Syrian conflict to the domestic issues plaguing our nation. In the end i have come a full circle in choosing to talk about my kind.  "The Unemployed Indian".

The Unemployed Indian is a complex product of the Indian Education system and the Indian society. The education system is skewed in favour of higher education whereas failing to focus on the foundation i.e, the primary education. Without a strong primary education the students lose the fundamental joy of learning and their creativity/individual thinking. This education is more "adult-aspiration focused" , and I use the term the "adult-aspiration focused " in a liberal sense to highlight how adults thrust the children with what they want, than with what the children need.

How do you expect a student who is weak in the basics to confront the challenges of the higher education?

And the answer is simple. Change the rules. So what we have done is to change the system so as to accommodate students by coming up with an Education system that has easier evaluation and is more focused on churning out quantity than quality. It fails to impart on these students the concept of individual thinking/creativity thereby limiting his options of study.

This is where the society comes into the picture to jumble things up further. It dictates the choice of school/college and choice of subjects that are in tune with the societal/class aspirations thereby failing to take into consideration the aspirations and capacity of the individual. This result in flooding the landscape with Engineers or other assorted Degree holders who are unemployable in the literal sense. We even have doctors who fail to learn the diagnostic skills needed in his profession and still stick to the textbook approach to cases.

Now, all of us know that being unemployable doesn't mean that one cannot get a job. One can change his field of employment to one that aligns with his own interests. This avenue of redemption for the unemployable Indian is further blocked by the society with constant jeers if he chooses to deviate from the societal/class aspirations. The meddlesome relative/neighbour are the chief detractors of the Unemployable Indian.

In the end, The unemployable Indian chooses to succumb to the society and this truly makes him an Unemployed Indian. He lives in the hope that one day he will be taken to the promised land of employment for which he has been preparing for all his life. (Being happy or not doesn't come into the picture as long as he has a job.) Can we blame the Unemployed Indian for his woes since he has been following what he is being taught all his life and not think on his own?

God save is Soul...
